On the rare London night when all the Urchins were home from our respective jobs and jollies, we would gather around the telly to watch the improv show Mock the Week, wherein comedian panelists take turns cracking topical jokes. I had discovered the show whilst nursing a month-long flu during my time studying in London and couldn’t wait to share it with my fellow Urchins. We enjoyed many a giggle from the humour of Russell Howard, Frankie Boyle, and host Dara O Briain. Then, one fateful rainy night, we were introduce to Michael McIntyre.
Born in Merton to a Canadian father and Hungarian mother, it’s as though Michael McIntyre was custom-made for the Urchins (myself being Hungarian and the Urchins in general being quite fond of Canada). After enjoying him on Mock the Week for several weeks, we were thrilled to catch his Live at the Apollo performance on BBC One and his set during the Royal Variety Performance.
It was after these two viewings that we made possibly one of our best decisions ever: to spend a few of our precious pence on his Live & Laughing stand-up dvd, which also includes his Live at the Apollo performance. Below are some of our very favourite jokes.
Michael McIntyre on…
Scottish People and Their Currency
British Phone Etiquette
Posh Words for Drunk
The Laugh Snort, Snot Sneeze, and Mini Sick
So if you happen to see an Urchin skipping down the street or telling someone about their mini sick, it means one of two things: 1) they are totally and utterly panini-ed or 2) they have recently watched some Michael McIntyre stand-up. Byyyyye!
