Before yesterday, I hadn’t gone on a proper bicycle ride in 16 years. When I was 8, there was an incident involving myself and a busy street, and let’s just say that the emotional recovery period was quite long. Yesterday, however, I decided to be a brave little toaster and set out on a 11 kilometre (7 mile) bicycle ride through the scenic countryside of Vermont with some friends. We rode along the beautiful Battenkill River, passing rolling hills, pretty ponies, fat cows, and the requisite covered bridge along the way.
All was well. I flew down a particularly steep hill at 40 kph (25 mph) unscathed. I adroitly navigated the contours of the river without falling in. I even took one hand off the handlebars to adjust my sunglasses without teetering over. But 0.5 kilometres from the end of the ride, going steadily along a straightaway, I flipped over my handlebars.
Now that I have an imprint of handlebars on my stomach and a knee the size of a baseball, we thought it would be a good time to launch our brand new, and quite apropos, tUMblr. Our tUMblr will be a place where we can post a variety a multimedia mini-posts, such as pictures, videos, sound clips, songs, and reposts from other blogs that we want to share with you.
Check out our tUMblr and let us know what you think. Be on the look out for pictures from my cycling adventure and other goodies. But when you’re scrolling through the site, just look out for straightaways. That’s how they get you.
