It is hard to believe that the biggest award show of the season is already over. Yes, the Urchies were a wild success! The winners were truly extraordinary, and gosh, can you believe those arrivals? But there was actually another award show this past weekend. Yes, they were a bit smaller and carry less clout, but we here at the Urchin Movement believe that everyone deserves a fair chance, so today we take a look at some of the highlights from the 2010 Academy Awards.
A woman won Best Director for the first time ever, and an independent film won Best Picture. But most importantly, pretty ladies wore dresses. Here are the loveliest of them all:
And though Sandra Bullock gave a characteristically endearing speech, my personal favourite of the night was by Nicolas Schmerkin for his Best Animated Short Film Logorama:
Good evening. It doesn’t look like, but it’s a French film. Sorry about the accent. I’m the producer of the film, so I have to thank the 3,000 non-official sponsors that appear in the film. And I have to assure them that no logos were harmed in the making of the project. This award has to be shared with the incredible people who made the film. All the team and especially, the three directors that are with us in the theater tonight: François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy and Ludovic Houplain. You can applaud them, the directors. Thanks for them. They have been working for a very long time on this film. It took, like, six years to make this 16 minutes, so I hope to come back here with a long feature film, in about 36 years. Thank you very much. Bon soir.
And finally, the best jokes of the night by hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin:
Steve: The biggest change this year…the best picture category has doubled. And when that was announced all of us in Hollywood thought the same thing: what’s 5 times 2?
Steve: Oh look, there’s that damn Helen Mirren.
Alec: Steve, that’s Dame Helen Mirren.
And now, award season ends for another year. In case you missed it, be sure to check out your 2010 Urchie winners. Until next year!
