Do you know what the best part of living in a capitalist economy is?
We are not actually people!
No, no. We are wallets! Living, breathing ATMs. Isn’t that great?!
I know some of you might be saying, ‘But I don’t want to be an inanimate object.’
Well, you simply have to look on the bright side. And, yes, there is one: when you do spend your money, it actually means something. Every single time you buy something, you are voting. You can choose what values to champion and what companies to support. You can actually change what is being produced by what you buy. It’s the very nature of supply and demand – buy what you care about and the producers will have to acknowledge your values. While this might be costly at first, prices will decrease over time. Companies will find cheaper ways to produce whatever is profitable, which will trickle down and eventually make the products cheaper for you to buy. So, just because you are a bank account with eyes doesn’t mean you don’t have power. Use it.
